Vardenafil, which was approved in Europe in 2003, is, like sildenafil and tadalafil, a PDE5 inhibitor, i.e. vardenafil works in exactly the same way and also has the same side effects as the two substances mentioned above and already discussed in this book. The only difference is the strength and the duration of action of the different active ingredients. Because there Vardenafil stands exactly between its two competitors. The effects of vardenafil begin slightly earlier than sildenafil, but slightly later than tadalafil. When comparing the duration of action, vardenafil also wins against sildenafil, but clearly loses to tadalafil at around 16 hours.

Considering the fact that vardenafil suppresses the PDE5 enzyme to a much greater extent than sildenafil, a dosage of just 5-20 mg before sexual intercourse is usually sufficient to fully benefit from the effect. Peak plasma concentrations are measured within 30-40 minutes after ingestion. This means that after taking the tablets you don't have to wait longer than half an hour before you can go to bed. Statistically speaking, vardenafil works for 76% of users and helps achieve the desired erectile result.
Since vardenafil belongs to the same group of active ingredients as sildenafil and tadalafil, the same contraindications apply and the same side effects are observed.
